What is Home Automation?
Home Automation is a technology term that describes the automatic operation of electronic devices within a house. These devices can be controlled by voice assistants or smart apps, and they can trigger one another like the lights turning on when you open the door.
But what does Home Automation really mean?
What is a Home? A home is a box that you keep your stuff in, if you really strip it down. But really, it’s the place that keeps us shelted and safe from the elements and also the space where we spend most of our downtime.
But what if your home came to life? What if simply getting up in the morning and walking down the hallway, triggered a series of events? Imagine it.
You walk down the hallway the lights turn on dimmed in the living area, the blinds open and the TV turns on to the morning news if it’s a weekday. On weekends, it does the same, but instead of the news on the TV it’s the cartoons, meaning the kids can get up and leave you to sleep in, resting in peaceful bliss.
What about a button on the wall or touch screen called ‘entertainer’ that sets the house up before your dinner guests arrive, in one seamless event?
The ‘entertainer’ sets the mood by turning on the garden entrance lights, the stunning pendent light above the dining table, presses play on your favourite dining playlist and cranks on the fireplace, creating the ambiance that starts the night off right. All in the push of a single button.
But when the night is done, any night of the week, a simple ‘good night’ button puts the house to sleep. The ‘goodnight’ event turns off all the lights, except those in the bedroom, and turns off the heat pump, the TV and the music, it locks the doors while setting the alarm to sleep mode, allowing you go to bed with ease knowing everything is off and secured.
But it’s not just about making life simple. Home automation adds additional aspects of security to your home. It enables sensors to not only turn your outside lights on when triggered, but it could also turn on your kitchen lights a few moments later if the alarm is armed, making that potentially unwanted guest think someone is in the house.
